Celebrating the Coming of Age: Friends of Herculaneum

The Friends of Herculaneum Society (UK) and the American Friends of Herculaneum will celebrate on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the founding of the Society.

A conference called "Herculaneum: Contexts, Present Progress and Future Prospects" will be held with the partnership of the Institute of Classical Studies at the University of London, Senate House on 13-14 October 2025.

All sessions in the two-day conference will be open to the public.

Papers presenting the ongoing archaeology, the papyrological advances related to the Vesuvius Challenge, and the rediscovery of Herculaneum in the milieu of the European Grand Tour will fill two days. The conference will also feature the world premier of Jon Dunham's new documentary called The Dark Library which treats the most recent, stunning advances in reading the Herculaneum scrolls without opening them. A reception for the Society membership will be hosted by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in London, where the historical discoveries of Herculaneum and Pompeii will be commemorated.

Officers, trustees, and members of the American Friends of Herculaneum will be well represented among the participants.

In all, the conference should be an event that no Friends of Herculaneum will want to miss. So...

Save That Date!  Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 October 2025.
